For most of us, certainly for me, the key to achieving and maintaining your weight loss goals is in understanding how to stop self sabotage. It's in your ability to understand how you get in your own way, how you routinely sabotage your efforts (consciously or unconsciously) and then changing your behavior accordingly. This is far easier said than done but it is 100% possible if you're willing to pay attention, be honest with yourself and acknowledge that you have everything it takes to improve your life and change your behavior.

In today's episode we're addressing a listener challenge that, to me, points to the gap between planning and doing. Maybe you recognize this pattern: you establish a plan. You set goals. You draft a menu for the week. You pre-determine how many workouts you'll get in. You stock up on healthy groceries. You don't execute. The groceries go to waste. You don't make it to the gym. You bring home takeout after working late. The next week, you go back to the same process. You refine your plan. You make it more specific. You spend more time on the plan than on the execution of the plan.

In today's episode we're talking about all things CrossFit and weight loss with my own personal trainer and owner of CrossFit Altius, Nathan Keil. Nathan and I chat about how he programs workouts for fat loss and the keys to efficient, safe and effective workouts. We'll get into the specifics of workout timing, movements and myths and he'll even share 25 minutes reviewing what he ate yesterday (kidding, kidding....kinda). Nathan is a true expert in his field and is currently training for the 2016 CrossFit Games. Though he has super human strength and far above average fitness, he's a great teacher, motivator and coach. He shares his insight on who might benefit from a personal trainer and how do you even know if your trainer is any good.

One of the most popular Primal Potential podcast episodes was all about how to create a fat loss breakfast. I think a lot of people have a hard time with lunch, even more than breakfast, because they're often out of the house and eating on-the-go. In today's episode we're talking about paleo lunch ideas, recipes, and basic principles to put together a primal or paleo fat loss friendly lunch no matter where you are or how much time you have! Plus, we'll talk about strategies and ideas for making good choices when lunching out!

Last weekend I attended a conference called Podcast Movement and the opening keynote by Pat Flynn so closely paralleled what I talk about on Primal Potential about sustainable fat loss that I just HAD to share it with you. Pat shared 7 ways to defeat resistance as it relates to pursuing your business dreams and it confirmed for me something I proved to myself years ago: when you master weight loss, you can master anything. In fact, what is required to master any achievement can be transferred to any goal you have in life. Pat outlined 7 strategies and in today's episode I'm going to share with you how they can be applied to fat loss, nutrition and health.

Impatience. It’s a real problem. We make good choices for a day or a few days and then get incredibly frustrated that we aren’t seeing results. That the number on the scale isn’t lower. What the heck? Why am I not losing weight? I did my part! Why isn’t my body responding?? In today’s episode we’re talking about just that: impatience with the process.

I'm sure you realize that your stress levels might be contributing to your trouble losing weight. But I'm not sure you realize what is contributing to your stress levels. Sure, emotional stress is a big problem. But what about physical stress? Processed foods, sugars and toxins create a stress response in your body whether you feel it or not. They cause damage at the cellular and vascular level that you might not recognize or feel for years. In today's episode we talk about stress management for weight loss: the common causes of stress, the symptoms of elevated cortisol, how it impacts your health and fat burning potential and how you can control cortisol via diet and lifestyle.

Fat loss is 90% what you eat. What you eat is 90% mental. If you don't control your thoughts, they will control you. This is very clear when we consider all the times we've really wanted to make good food choices but cave to temptation in the moment. Controlling your thoughts isn't just about positive thinking - in fact, positive thinking often falls far short. This is where power thinking comes into play. In this episode we talk about why positive thinking isn't enough and how power thinking can make a huge difference in your life regardless of your goal.

One of the most common questions I get is, "How can I lose weight after menopause?". So many women feel like their bodies have changed and no longer response to the weight loss strategies that always worked in the past. In this episode we talk about the most important and effective strategies for weight loss after menopause.

In today's episode we're tackling how to eat healthy on a budget. Eating for fat loss or "going paleo/primal" does not have to be more expensive than the Standard American Diet. Can it be? Sure. But you can have a huge grocery budget on the Standard American Diet or you can have a small one. Similiarly, you can have a huge grocery budget on a Primal diet or you can have a small one. There are ways. You get what you look for. You can absolutely eat healthy on a budget. In this episode, we'll show you how.

Just because it is derived from a whole food does not mean it is good for fat loss. Heck, just because something is a whole food doesn't mean it is good for fat loss! I'll be super straight forward about this: dried fruit is not a fat loss food. In fact, in many cases it contains more sugar than a candy bar and it does not and will not trigger our satiety signals.
